Patients suffer the consequences of medical malpractice

Advancements in medical technological and updated safety regulations have made surgeries and other medical procedures safer than ever before for patients across the country. However, there is risk involved with any surgical procedure. The state of New Jersey is home to some of the best physicians and surgeons in the world, but these skilled professionals can and will make mistakes. When medical malpractice happens, the patient suffers the consequences.

A woman in another state suffered permanent injuries due to alleged negligence during a procedure, and she filed a lawsuit. The woman said she underwent surgery to remove her thyroid gland. According to the lawsuit, the woman began to experience hoarseness and shortness of breath in the days following her surgery. Allegedly, the woman's vocal chords were injured during the procedure.

The woman claims her symptoms went unrecognized and were not treated. This caused her to have a permanent tracheostomy, which is a breathing tube surgically inserted into her windpipe. The plaintiff seeks a trial by jury, monetary damages and all other just relief.

The vast majority of surgeries in New Jersey and across the country are very minor and noninvasive procedures. However, there will always be a chance for errors any time humans are involved in the process. Those who have suffered injuries due to medical malpractice may want to consider discussions with a legal representative. A successfully litigated lawsuit could result in much-needed compensation to help victims and families with medical expenses and other monetary losses that may have occurred as a result of this experience.
