Car accidents involving bicyclists are usually serious or fatal

During the spring and summer months, cycling is a popular form of transportation and recreation in the state of New Jersey. Not only is cycling a great way to stay in shape, it is also very economical and environmentally friendly. As the weather warms in spring, cyclists are more numerous throughout the state. However, cycling near busy roadways can be incredibly dangerous. Car accidents involving bicycles seem to be happening more and more as populations increase in New Jersey.

A recent crash in Berkeley resulted in the deaths of a cyclist and a driver. The accident happened during the afternoon hours along Route 9 just south of Sylvan Lakes Boulevard. According to reports, the driver was traveling south along Route 9 when he suddenly lost control of his vehicle and crossed the center line of the highway.

Reports said the driver then struck a bicyclist who was riding along the shoulder of the northbound side of the roadway. Tragically, both the cyclist and the driver were pronounced dead at the scene of the crash, authorities said. Police closed Route 9 for several hours following the accident. The crash remains under investigation.

Cyclists need to be aware of their surroundings at all times when riding near vehicular traffic. Since cyclists are often totally exposed, car accidents involving bicycles usually result in serious injury or death. New Jersey families who have suffered the loss of a loved in an accident such as this could benefit from discussions with an experienced litigator. A successful claim could result in financial relief to help families with end-of-life expenses.
